STOP NORTH BERWICK PARKING CHARGES

Many residents may not be aware that the majority of East Lothian Councillors are in favour of introducing parking charges throughout East Lothian towns, and voted for consultations to take place on a town by town basis.

The first consultation took place in North Berwick and despite the majority of residents and businesses being opposed to the proposals, Labour, SNP and Green councillors voted in favour.

The Conservative group, alongside Craig Hoy MSP, consulted with and listened to the concerns of both residents and businesses and our Councillors voted against the proposals. However, without the support of other Parties the process now moves to the next stage, and a further opportunity for residents, businesses and statutory consultees to comment will follow.

It is our understanding that many residents are not fully aware of the results of the consultation and the amended proposals.

The association, alongside our elected representatives have prepared a leaflet which we hope will highlight what the proposals will mean and what residents and businesses can do if they wish to make the council reconsider.
