Rachael Hamilton has been selected as the Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate for East Lothian in next year’s Holyrood elections.
Following her selection at a packed meeting of the local party’s members held in Gullane, the businesswoman who comes from a family with a farming background said:
"I am thrilled to have been selected. I am up for the challenge and committed to listening, showing understanding and working hard on behalf of all those in our towns, villages and communities across East Lothian, no matter how small."
"I am looking forward to getting out and about around the constituency over the coming weeks and months. I intend to run a positive campaign but I will be highlighting the dangers of 5 more years of the SNP at Holyrood and the risks of another referendum on Scotland's future in the United Kingdom. It is clear that only the Scottish Conservatives can now stop the SNP here in East Lothian."
Rachael added, "As a mother, I feel that it is vital that our young people and school leavers are given the best start in life. I will therefore give particular priority to necessary improvements in education standards as well as the opportunities for apprenticeships".
"I will also fight for hardworking families and pensioners who worry about the cost of living and support businesses and commuters who want to see improved rail services and the A1 dualled between Dunbar and Berwick."
Commenting on Rachael Hamilton's selection, Tim Jackson, the Chairman of the East Lothian Conservatives and Unionists added :
"With the SNP Government’s record in office and the Labour Party in disarray, we are excited by Rachael's selection. With her background in business and farming, I am confident that she will connect with and inspire the East Lothian electorate. “
Conservative Group leader Cllr Michael Veitch said:
"I am delighted that Rachael has been selected as our candidate. She brings formidable business experience and will be a powerful advocate for East Lothian.
"With the Labour Party melting down before our very eyes, the Scottish Conservatives are the credible unionist alternative to the SNP, and I look forward to working with Rachael to set out a positive vision for East Lothian in the months ahead."
