Ahead of a weekend campaigning on the issue, Craig Hoy is warning that Dunbar continues to be the focus of significant housebuilding and retail construction.
Craig wants local people to be given a greater say in local planning and development issues.
With new housing planned at Hallhill North – which comes alongside nearby plans for retail and leisure units, drive-thru units, a hotel, offices, a nursery, care home and elderly amenity flats – Craig says the views of local people should always be taken into account.
Craig also wants to make sure there is sufficient infrastructure, including making sure the A1 can cope with increased demands. “Dunbar has grown significantly and future development around DunBear Park should only take place where it is sustainable and where it has the support of local residents,” he says.
Craig has backed a Scottish Conservative commitment to bring forward legislation to stop the Scottish Government from interfering in the planning appeals process whilst respecting community-led planning decisions.
He says: “I want the local council and communities to be given the final say on planning issues. I will work to ensure community decisions are respected. In contrast, SNP Ministers have failed to respect local views and have not listened to serious objections on many local applications.”
