Dr Sue Kempson has been selected to stand for the Scottish Conservative and Unionists in the Dunbar & East Linton ward next May.
She will be standing in place of Cllr Michael Veitch who announced recently that he would not be standing in this year’s local government elections.
Sue has lived in East Lothian for over 21 years, and is passionate about the county. She was previously Head of the Anatomy Department at the Royal (Dick) Veterinary School at the University of Edinburgh, and although retired she is still an honorary member of and President of the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists.
She is also a qualified, listed dressage judge and a qualified British Horse Society instructor.
Speaking after her selection, Dr Sue Kempson commented:
“It’s a real privilege to have been chosen to stand in Dunbar & East Linton.
“Having lived in the county for over two decades I am passionate about the region and want to make sure it remains one of the best places to live and work in Scotland.
“I know that Michael has been a fantastic representative for the area over the past five years, and in the coming months I want to prove that I too can provide a strong voice for the region.
“That’s why over the campaign I’ll be trying to speak to as many residents as possible to find out their views on what they want from their council.”
Out-going councillor Michael Veitch commented:
"It has been a tremendous privilege to represent the Dunbar and East Linton ward since 2012, and to work closely with so many local people to improve our community.
"The people of this ward rightly expect that those granted the privilege of being elected to serve them, work hard and get things done. I am therefore very pleased that the local Conservatives have selected someone as dedicated, passionate and committed as Sue to stand for election in May.
“I am sure that, if elected, she will work tirelessly to represent local people and to fight for the policy priorities of local people, such as ever improving public transport, more car parking, robust opposition to inappropriate housing development, safeguarding our rural landscapes and protecting local services.
"I therefore wish her my warmest congratulations on her selection, and look forward to the local Conservatives continuing to fight for this community in the years ahead."
