The Scottish Conservatives have revealed the list rankings for the South of Scotland region ahead of next year’s Holyrood elections.
Scottish Conservative East Lothian candidate, Rachael Hamilton, was elected third on the list, behind John Scott MSP and Oliver Mundell. The result means that if Rachael isn’t elected in the East Lothian constituency, she still has a good chance of getting elected on the list.
Ballot papers were sent out to tens of thousands of party members and people who had demonstrated support for the Scottish Conservatives across Scotland.
It means the regional list rankings have been decided entirely by a public vote, making the Scottish Conservatives’ selection system the most democratic in the country.
Scottish Conservative and Unionist Candidate Rachael Hamilton said: “I was absolutely delighted to be elected so high up on the South of Scotland list. While I will be working very hard to be elected in East Lothian, I along with other candidates will also be urging unionist voters to vote for the Scottish Conservatives on the regional list.
“This has been the most democratic system any of the parties have used to rank candidates and thousands were involved in selecting the South of Scotland regional list.
“Now voters can see where their vote will be going if they back the Scottish Conservatives. We are the only real alternative to the SNP, and the only party serious about Scotland’s place at the heart of Britain.”
