Ian Duncan, Conservative MEP for Scotland, has expressed delight at his appointment to the Board of Advisors of the Schwarzenegger Institute, University of Southern California.
The USC Schwarzenegger Institute is a cross party public policy institute which brings together experts from across the world in pursuit of policy solutions to global challenges. Ian will advise the Institute on energy policy and climate change.
The appointment comes after Ian and Governor Schwarzenegger met at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris last December when the two discussed market-based solutions to global warming.
Arnold Schwarzenegger was the Governor of California responsible for introducing the state’s carbon cap and trade system. Ian is the European Parliament’s lead lawmaker on reform of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.
Commenting on his appointment Ian said:
‘I am honoured to be asked to serve on the Board of Advisors to the USC Schwarzenegger Institute.
‘The Institute has an impressive track record and I look forward to exploring solutions to the challenges presented by a warming planet, energy poverty, and our ongoing dependence upon fossil fuels.’
Bonnie Reiss, Global Director of the USC Schwarzenegger Institute, said
‘We are honoured to have Ian join our board of advisors. Ian's experience and global perspective on policy and climate change and many other critical issues will bring great value to our work.’
