General Election 2015

DAVID ROACH has been selected as Scottish Conservative candidate for East Lothian for the General Election on 7th May.

The 33 year old businessman, who lives in Musselburgh, has advised some of the world's largest companies from Asia and Europe on their businesses in the UK and elsewhere.

David's priorities for East Lothian are -

  •      Creating jobs and cutting living costs. Conservatives have cut income tax, fuel duty, local unemployment and secured a better deal for pensioners.
  •      Fighting the SNP's win farms on the Lammermuirs. East Lothian Conservatives have secured tighter regulations but the fight goes on.
  •      Dualling the A1 between Dunbar and Berwick. In 2015 parts are still single carriageway. It would be good for businesses and commuters.

A statement from David -

'Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who put their trust in my candidacy and voted for me in the General Election. Here in East Lothian, the Scottish Conservatives attracted almost 2,000 more votes than last time, the highest number of votes since 1992, and despite the tsunami of support for the SNP, we managed to maintain our share of the vote at 19.5%.  We have a growing platform from which to build, and with next year’s Scottish Parliamentary elections using Proportional Representation, we will be looking to win back those people who last week voted tactically for Labour to try to keep the SNP out. Like us, they care about keeping the United Kingdom together, and with so much at stake I would encourage them to come home next year to the Scottish Conservatives.  Secondly, I would like to congratulate the SNP's George Kerevan on his successful election to the House of Commons, and wish him well in representing our wonderful area. And finally, I pay tribute to Labour's outgoing Fiona O'Donnell. She has served East Lothian with dedication, and I wish her well in the future.'

The Result [turnout 74.29%] -  Mike Allan (Ind) 158; George Kerevan (SNP) 25,104; Oluf Marshall (UKIP)1,178; Fiona O'Donnell (Lab) 18,301; DAVID ROACH (Con) 11,511; Jason Rose(Green) 1,245; Ettie Spencer (Lib/Dem) 1,517
