The East Lothian Conservatives have launched their manifesto for the 2017 local government elections in May.
Having formed part of the administration since 2012, the party is hoping to continue to build on their achievements over the past five years. These have included balancing the books, protecting the local roads budget and investing in sports and leisure facilities throughout the county.
The manifesto contains ambitious plans to improve education, local transport, healthcare and economic development in East Lothian.
The party is hoping to return an increased number of candidates at this upcoming election, with the party running seven candidates across the six
wards.
Commenting on the launch of the manifesto, Scottish Conservative candidate for Haddington and Lammermuir Ward, Brian Small said:
“Our group will focus on continuing the great work carried out over the last five years by the Conservative Group in East Lothian Council.
“We have an excellent group of candidates who are all committed to progressing the Manifesto commitments for the benefit of everyone in East Lothian and with appropriate financial prudence.
“These commitments have been developed after extensive consultation with voters in every part of East Lothian.
“We will continue to work hard to not only maintain but enhance the quality of life enjoyed by the people of East Lothian.”
Outgoing councillor and current Deputy Leader of the council Michael Veitch said,
“The East Lothian Conservatives have governed diligently as part of the administration of the Council over the past five years, and have vigorously
focused our efforts on delivering upon our election commitments.
“Our new manifesto for the forthcoming elections outlines a wide range of ambitious policies focused upon helping East Lothian to become an even better
place to live."
