Craig Hoy, the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Councillor for Haddington and the Lammermuirs, has been selected by East Lothian Conservatives to contest the 2021 Scottish Parliamentary Election.
Councillor Hoy said:
“I am very pleased to have been selected to be Ruth Davidson’s candidate for Holyrood in 2021. It’s an honour to represent Haddington and the Lammermuirs on East Lothian Council and I look forward to spending the coming two years serving the people in my ward while campaigning to underline why it's only the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party which will defend the interests of everyone living across East Lothian.”
He was selected on Monday as the East Lothian Conservative and Unionist Association’s official candidate for the 2021 Holyrood Election at a packed meeting held in Gullane Village Hall.
Councillor Hoy lives in Haddington and began his career in journalism, working for the BBC, before setting up several publications including Holyrood Magazine and launching his own successful business in Asia. He is also engaged on a voluntary basis with a major Scottish charity where he focuses on issues affecting older people.
Earlier this year, and against the odds, he delivered a win for the Scottish Conservatives in the Haddington and Lammermuir By-election, where he knocked Labour from first to third place, securing a six percentage point swing.
Councillor Hoy added:
“I have proven that I am a strong local voice who cares passionately about local issues. I will speak up for the people of East Lothian against the SNP’s mismanagement of our public services and the damaging policies of Scottish Labour. East Lothian is the fastest growing area of Scotland and it is vital we enhance infrastructure, create jobs and deliver high quality public services so that nobody is left behind. As a local resident this will be my number one priority.”
Tim Jackson, the Chairman of the East Lothian Conservative and Unionist Association, said:
“Craig has proven himself to be an excellent local campaigner and is proving to be an incredibly hardworking Councillor. Craig believes passionately in the Union and has shown that only Ruth Davidson's Scottish Conservatives can beat the SNP in East Lothian. We are very pleased to have Craig as our candidate and look forward to working tirelessly with him to ensure he is elected to represent the people of East Lothian in the Scottish Parliament in 2021.”
