East Lothian SNP MP, George Kerevan, has been widely condemned for a tweet that he sent shortly after the conclusion of the Syrian Air Strikes debate.
Kerevan was tweeting moments after the grave debate concluded, shortly after Shadow Foreign Secretary, Labour MP Hilary Benn, had delivered an impassioned speech.
In his tweet, Kerevan suggested "Benn summing up for Labour but voting with Tories. Benn's father must be turning in his grave."
The tweet attracted widespread condemnation from all quarters, including a number of Kerevan's own SNP colleagues, but also Emily Benn, Tony Benn's granddaughter. Emily responded that the "last sentence is deeply offensive and simply not true. I hope you examine your conscience and retract it."
So far there has been no retraction.
